What do you do to find that space for surrender? Is there a particular activity, creative or otherwise, which allows for that surrender and spaciousness to come in?
You did went way and above what I asked and I appreciate it so much. I will treasure this post for a long time! You've made me want to try keeping a sketchbook for the first time in years!
For me, it's music and singing. I've spent many years suppressing my emotions that I sometimes have a hard time letting them move through me. I find listening to a song where I feel the words in my soul...where I feel seen... it's like turning on the tap and the emotions flood out. Whether it's sadness, anger, joy... it just helps the flow. I also sing in a choir (soul and rn'b) and being in this community and feeling our voices weave together has been so healing and joyful. When we our voices soar in perfect harmony... it's so deeply moving. 🎶 🎵 Both have helped me navigate very dark times in my life... they are my life bouy!
Caragh, I'm always so happy to hear from you when you pop in here! Thank you! How are you?
I so feel you on the music and singing. I never sang because I thought I couldn't, but I just started a couple of years ago. The power of it to move us is absolutely incredible. Apparently it does all sorts of magic in our brains, even humming. I don't sing in a group (though I've been thinking of joining/finding one lately, I can only imagine the power of it!) but even when I'm cooking/cleaning etc, I try just to sing different frequencies to myself. It's so soothing and it feels like I'm tapping into parts of myself that would otherwise by neglected. Entirely just following my instinct, it probably sounds rubbish most of the time but it really doesn't matter!
It's so lovely to read about your experience of the choir and how this creative act takes care of you, how you take that step to take care of yourself essentially.
I'm good thanks 😊 Although fighting a cold so my singing is inhibited right now 😔 How're you?
Totally agree that it can do magic in our brains. I think I read that humming is soothing for your vagus nerve. I do highly recommend giving a group a shot if you find one. There's great community in singing in a group and it's so invigorating. I'm usually flying high after practice!
I love that you find it tapping into neglected parts. It really is so healing and so freeing. Much love to you and keep on singing ❤️💕

So honoured to have you ask such beautiful questions Tamzin, and to give me the opportunity to express them in art and words xo

Woohoo! My work here is done :)

Hopefully you can continue to heal through the expression of your art.
Not yet but this beautiful piece brings inspiration!
Thank you, Lisa. I'd love to hear when you've had a chance to think about it and see what that inspiration sparked...
So beautiful, thank you for sharing ❤️
