Sometimes, we really need a break from reading, so I’ve decided that once a month, I’m going to drop an image into your inbox instead of a newsletter. A piece of artwork or a photograph, mostly from my portfolio but also some by other artists.
Images carry a certain frequency. The colours, the shapes, the meaning our brains attach to what we see, all create a feeling within us. They have the power to affect our energy, to lift us up or to uncover something we’ve been avoiding.
They can ignite and inspire.
When I started drawing in 2019, I received a lot of feedback that my artwork provided people with a moment of calm, that the patterns scratched an itch in their minds that they weren’t fully aware of — bothering them in the background — until it was suddenly soothed. I heard that my drawings were like a deep breath, a ray of light into a dark cave.
I was always very (pleasantly) surprised by this feedback, because my mind felt anything but calm at the time. While drawing, I had no intention of evoking this response — I was simply trying to find some calm myself, to slow down, to focus on a mindful activity in order to soothe my mind. Perhaps it’s no wonder that the viewer could sense that.
From now on, I will post an image in the hope that it:
Provides you with those moments of calm and mindfulness
Sparks some creativity
Gives you some insight — what feeling does the image trigger for you? What do you associate with it? What energy is it evoking in you?
As always, I would absolutely love to hear your feedback, to hear what the images ignite for you.
Starting with this one, my interpretation of the view above. I never draw landscapes — my inner critic is shouting at me not to share it, it’s not good enough — but that’s not the point of this exercise, I’m here to share images whether they meet my standards or not.
This is the view from a house I’ve returned to a few times, a special place.
I added some energy in the form of an intention sent out into the horizon.
Take a moment to send your wish or intention out into the world. What does it look like? What does it feel like?
“Or the house on the cliff on an island in Spain, where, waking early, I stepped out onto the balcony to watch the sun rise over the sea, filling me up with colour and light,” about this view, in the piece I wrote, “From My Bed”.
Providing a break from reading with images or artwork is a great idea!
I recently took a trip to a museum where there was a beautiful collection of embroidered photography of women in North India. It really reminded me of your soul portraits. I'll send them your way. <3
