It’s two years since I moved to Austria. No, not Australia — you’d be surprised how many people asked me if I was going to Sydney, I’ve even had post end up there!
If I’m honest, I really didn’t want to come here.
That said, I do believe that this move was meant to be. I believe that even the resistance I felt was for a reason.
When we were looking for a place to move to, I had one desire and one condition. The desire was that we move somewhere outside of Europe, ideally to the tropics. The condition was to be by the sea.
Well. There’s a cosmic joke for you. With an estimated 620,000km of coastline in the world, I ended up in a landlocked country.
Lay down conditions and plans all you want, but some things are beyond our control, and maybe they should be.
Is there somewhere or something you’re avoiding? If so, why?
Coming to Austria made no sense to me. It was for practical reasons rather than following my heart, which was how I’d made decisions in the past.
The first few months were disappointing, I couldn’t help but compare everything to the last city I had really loved living in, which was Florence. Word of advice: don’t compare one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the Italian lifestyle to wherever you find yourself, it won’t help.
But here we are, two years down the line, and Austria has changed me and my life for the better. It has given me more than I could have imagined. It is where I spent eight weeks in hospital, which felt like a total nightmare at the time, but otherwise I wouldn’t have received a life-changing treatment which I’m grateful for every single day.
Hidden here, in a place I didn’t want to come to, in a culture I didn’t understand, amidst lockdowns and a lot of confusion, I found my path. I found messages and secrets, things that were waiting for me to show up and unearth.
This is true also of ourselves.
There are parts of ourselves that we’d rather never visit. Parts that hurt to go to. Parts of our story that we avoid, that make us cringe. Memories that we’d like to forget. And parts of our personality that we try to hide, because we think they’re shameful.
But if we feel safe enough to take a journey there, we can heal so much. If we face the things we’d rather avoid, we can release it, and in doing so, ensure it no longer holds us back.
It might not be easy, you’ll probably have to move through a lot of resistance at first, but I promise you, it will be worth it.
Once you get there, it won’t be as scary as you had imagined. Likely, you’ll find some magic hidden there; maybe a lesson, maybe a side of yourself you weren’t aware of, maybe some clarity you didn’t know you needed.
You’ll come back feeling lighter, and so much stronger with the knowledge that you can visit those places buried deep inside, and make it back in one piece.
So, where are you avoiding?
What are you avoiding?
What could you dig up and let go of?
A big part of working with me involves visiting those places we’ve kept hidden, and it can feel like trudging up dirt at first.
If feel like you’re stuck in the sludge at the bottom of the sea, I promise that when you wade through it, you can find a way to cut the weights loose that were pinning you down, and float dreamily up to the light.
To resurface.
If you would like to work with me and get a Soul Sign Portrait for yourself or for a loved one, I have a very special offer on from now until the end of November. It is the last chance to get one at a reduced price and before 2023.

Was there ever a place you really didn’t want to go to, but then found something special there or a bigger reason for your journey? I’d love to hear all about it, so respond to this email or leave a comment on this post.
Until next week,
