I’m an intuitive artist, writer and mentor, and this space is for creating deeper connections not only to others, but to parts of ourselves that have been forgotten, neglected, or are waiting to be discovered. At the beginning of every month, I post a “Visual Treat” — an illustration or a photograph alongside a short prompt. See it as a chance to give our eyes a rest, a moment of calm and mindfulness.

There is Still Joy

We look around and can’t help but notice how still, still this world is magnificent. As far as we know, there’s nowhere else like it.

The sky still turns pink as the sun tips over the horizon. Birds still chirp me awake. Waterfalls still gush, plants still push their way through barriers and burst from the ground, smelling all the sweeter for their struggle. My cat still purrs as though All Is Well and I don’t have the heart to tell him…

Above all, humans everywhere refuse to give up. Through unimaginable grief, pain and loss, they still fight for their rightful place on this exquisite Earth. If they’re not giving up, then I won’t either.

Through extreme hardship, people still manage to find ways to love, to laugh, to create.

Prompt:

What light and joy can you focus on, despite the grief that you also may be feeling?

Look back at moments of hardship you’ve experienced and acknowledge that despite the pain, you still had the capacity to love deeply. What does that show you about yourself?

Did any of those moments lead to greater understanding and creativity?

If you’re finding things particularly tough right now, how can you bring some laughter into your day?
