We’re told to find our shadows
Dig them up and study them
“Integrate” — in order to be whole
But some shadows follow us
Cast by long rays of evening light
Dancing and waving from the shore
Reminding us they can’t exist
Without the vivid, glowing sun
Prompt:
Have you done shadow work before? What did you learn?
What shadows are you embracing, ready to welcome them in?
Where is your light outshining them?
You’re reading Resurface, with me, Tamzin Merivale.
I’m an intuitive artist, writer and mentor, and this space is for creating deeper connections not only to others, but to parts of ourselves that have been forgotten, neglected, or are waiting to be discovered. It’s time to see the unseen, to hear the unheard. My mission is to show you just how much you light up the world around you, simply by existing. You can learn more about how I do this here.
At the beginning of every month, I post a “Visual Treat” — an illustration or a photograph alongside a short prompt. See it as a chance to give our eyes a rest, a moment of calm and mindfulness.
Until next week,
Tamzin xx
I thought I've been doing shadow work for years, but one that I never looked at came up in a writing class I was part in last week. What a revelation! I am not running away from it anymore. In Aikido practice years ago, I learned that welcoming and using the energy of what scares you is where you gain power. Running away will exhaust and deplete you.
I've been working on a Shadow Work workbook for about 6 months now. I do a little at a time so as to absorb the information and to actually put the methods into practice in real life. It's been helpful but not as amazing for me as DBT was years ago in helping with my psychological issues... but it is enlightening to say the least!
