Welcome to Resurface, with me, Tamzin Merivale.
I’m an intuitive artist, writer and mentor, and this space is for creating deeper connections not only to others, but to parts of ourselves that have been forgotten, neglected, or are waiting to be discovered. I’m here to show you just how much you light up the world around you, simply by existing.
My mission is to see the unseen, to hear the unheard, and to bear witness.
You can learn more about how I do this here.
Draw a squiggly line. Sing badly. Dance alone, or in company. Bake a cake, don’t feel bad if you burn the edges.
Write something down, with a pen and paper, or bang it out on a keyboard.
Use your hands, feet, elbows — your senses, your mind, your heart, soul and gut — to make something out of nothing.
A volcano is quietly bubbling in your core,
fizzing and sizzling
a permanent heat beating inside you, from your belly to your chest.
Don’t let it stop there — move that energy up, on, and out of you. Share it with us.
Let it erupt.
Why? Because creativity is one of the most extraordinary things that binds us together as humans. Even if you think you don't have any ability or “talent”, you do, so use it. Making things gives us endless pleasure, joy and satisfaction. Yes, it can give us heaps of frustration too, but that’s OK.
Making art brings us closer to others and home to ourselves.
There is always art, there has always been art.
When all else seems bleak, there is still art.
Most of the time, our creativity gets dampened down.
But the more you express what truly matters to you, what makes your heart beat and makes your soul burst, the more powerful your creative work becomes.
Ignite that fire for yourself, the flames will speak for themselves.
Tamzin xx
P.S.

Yes. Yes! I truly believe that one of the best ways to manage Depression is with creativity. Use your brain in ways that it may not necessarily use routinely. Don't just think outside the square but don't bother with the square at all.
Yes!! Making with our hands is our birth right, creativity is our birth right. With busy hands I find I have a less busy mind.
