Yes. Yes! I truly believe that one of the best ways to manage Depression is with creativity. Use your brain in ways that it may not necessarily use routinely. Don't just think outside the square but don't bother with the square at all.

That's such a good way of phrasing it Fiona, don't use the square at all! I feel as though I need to constantly remind myself and frequently my clients of this -- there are no rules. Or yes, maybe there are LOADS of rules people will try to force on you, but we can choose to ignore, ignore, ignore. And when we do, that's when the real magic happens!

The box is in our mind and made up of the societal expectations and beliefs we inherit about what we should and shouldn’t do. One by one as we release these we become free to choose our own source of inspiration and direction. One basic but powerful principle I realised in my own life about when energy feels stuck (I.e. depression) is not to take some major action but to do a small thing like reorganising my room or my cupboard. Simply shifting the energy helps unblock me slowly…

Thats a really good coping strategy, I tend to do that myself. I think that’s why there’s that old adage about women cleaning things when they’re stressed. I know I do it.

Yes!! Making with our hands is our birth right, creativity is our birth right. With busy hands I find I have a less busy mind.
